Yorkshire Countrywomen's Association

The association split from the WI in 1983 with much sadness following dissatisfaction with some of the rules and regulations issued from London. The aims of the YCA are to preserve village life and values, to promote friendship, social activities and skills and interests of countrywomen; there are now 125 groups covering the three ridings of Yorkshire.

Membership

We are always happy to welcome new members and we are sure there must be ladies who would like to join us. We have heard that some don’t want to come out on a winter’s evening, so if you would like to try us out during the lighter nights and find you like us, we could try to arrange transport for the dark nights. If this idea suits you just come along and give us a try. You never know, it could be the start of something good.

We have been told by members that some ladies in the village, who may be interested in joining us, think they are not eligible because they are not Yorkshireborn, this is not so. Everyone is welcome, no matter where you originate from.

The Walkington membership is around 35 and the group meets in the Village Hall at 7.30 pm on every second Wednesday of the month.
